Young Rogers Beats Veteran Ditty

Vetran Julie Ditty, of Ashland, Ky. couldn't deal with youth as she lost to 18-year-old Shelby Rogers, of Daniel Island, S.C. 7-6(3), 6-2 in the second round of the $50,000 RBC Bank Women's Challenger in Raleigh, NC. The tournament is being played on outdoor clay courts at the North Hills Club May 9-15.
 
Rogers will play American Alexis King in the quarterfinals. Ditty and long-time partner Carly Gullickson lost their doubles match to Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran,/Vivian Segnini 6-3, 6-2.
 
 
The Carolinas will be full of women's pro tournament tennis as the USTA Pro Circuit makes three stops in May.
 
Tournaments are:
  • $50,000 Raleigh, NC, May 9-15, clay courts, outdoor
  • $10,000 Sumter, SC, May 23-29, hard courts, outdoor
  • $10,000 Hilton Head Island, SC, May 30-June 5, hard courts, outdoor
