Southern Dominant In Doubles At 2011 National Clay Courts

The Nation Clay Court Championships took place around the country July 17-24 for all boys and girls junior age divisions. The tournament features nation’s top junior tennis players at all age divisions as they competed in eight USTA National Championships across the country last week. The winners of the USTA Boys’ and Girls’ 18s events will each be invited back to the sites of their tournaments for ATP World Tour and WTA events next year.
 
USTA Southern was well represented in all boys and girls age divisions with numerous members participating. For Southern the week was highlighted by the doubles play. In the Girl’s 18 and Under doubles where the second seeded team of Whitney Kay, Alpharetta, Ga., and Caroline Price, Duluth, Ga., defeated the fourth seeded combo of Lynn Chi, and Chalena Scholl, 6-3, 6-4.
 
The Boy’s 18 and Under final also featured a Southern player, Vikram Hundal. The Alpharetta, Ga., native and his partner Alex Sidney lost to the second seeded duo from Florida in a close three set match in the finals, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
 
Southern also had a player represented as the doubles champion in the Girl’s 16 and under divison. Laura Patterson, Roswell, Ga., and her partner Peggy Porter defeated Julia O’Loughlin, and Cristina Rovira, Fla., 6-1, 6-3.
 
The Girls 12 and Under event featured an all-Southern doubles final in which Anna Bright, Memphis, Tenn., and Mallory Gilmer, Woodstock, Ga., defeated Madeline Meredith, Vestavia, Ala., and Danielle Vines, Elizabethton, Tenn., 6-1, 6-4.
 
Southern also showcased singles success in the Boy’s 12 and Under. Third seeded Patrick Kypson, Greenville, N.C., made a run all the way to the finals before falling in the final, 6-2, 6-1.
