The finals of the tournament featured 14 year old, rising star, Brooke Austin and the top seeded 28 year old Alexis King. The two had a long battle, but last years finalist, King, had the experience need to win the tournament defeating Austin 6-3, 7-5.

First Round Of The Palmetto Open Is Under Way
Main Draw play at the Palmetto Open began today in South Carolina. It was an exciting first day of matches, which was highlighted by unseeded Xin Wen of China defeating the 3 seed, Anna Livadaru of Germany 6-1, 6-3 in the featured match of the day. Of the 8 qualifiers into the main draw only three remain after the first day.
Tomorrow's night match begins at 7 p.m. and features the top seeded American Alexis King. As the runner-up of last year's Pro Open, King will look to continue her success at the tournament. King currently holds a world ranking of 435 and will take on Ebony Panoho of Australian, currently ranking world number 1123.
King received the top seed in the tournament when Shelby Rogers pulled out to the tournament to accept a Wild Card entry to a Challenger tournament in California. Rogers will face the 4 seed in the tournament Petra Rampre of Slovenia.
Once again the Palmetto Tennis Center held its annual Iris Jr. Championships from May 6-9 this year, in which the number of tournament entries soared up to 160. Each year the winner of the girl’s 18s not only wins their tournament division, but also a wild card into the main draw. This year’s winner and wild card recipient was Sherry Li. Li is a 16 year old, rising junior from Parkland, Fla. who has had a national ranking as high as 40 and previously has reached the quarterfinal round of the Mima Foundation 50K tournament, in Indian Harbour, Florida.
Li will face American qualifier Katie Vialle in the first round.
