"This tournament gives players a great opportunity to come out here to have fun, renew old junior and collegiate rivalries, and to prove yourself against the best players from each state," explains Johan Kjellsten, a former NCAA clay court champion, All-American for LSU, and member of Team Louisiana. "I have been coming to this tournament for the last four years, and every year it has grown in size and skill level," says Kjellsten.

"This is such a wonderful tournament," says North Carolina women’s captain Vicki Everett. "It truly is a player’s tournament, and that is the reason why so many great players continue to play every year." Both Everett and North Carolina men’s captain Bill Ashley were excited to see their players compete in the "crown jewel" of Southern age division tennis. "We knew we had a chance to win," says Ashley, "when you have players like Fred Robinson and Mariana Hollman, who are both internationally ranked senior players, you can compete with the best."

Congratulations to North Carolina for also winning the women’s 35s, along with the men’s 55s and 75s. Tennessee won the women’s 45s. Georgia, who finished second in the Mildred Cup standings, won the women’s 75s, men’s 65s and 45s.Louisiana won the women’s 65s, South Carolina won the men’s 35s, and Alabama won the women’s 55s.

This year, the Senior Cup Diamond Award went to Jane Holland of Mississippi. Jane worked for GMAC for 33 years, and had always wanted to play tennis. When asked what she wanted for a retirement gift, Jane wanted a tennis racquet. At the age of 58, Jane bought her first tennis racquet, and could not put it down. In 1994, Jane set out to put together a Senior Cup team for Mississippi, who had not had a team the 3 years prior to Jane becoming captain. Since then Jane has continued to assist and co-captain the Mississippi team until she retired last year. Jane Holland is a continued source of pride for Team Mississippi, and her work with Southern Senior Cup makes her more than worthy of receiving the 2010 Diamond Award.ooHolland
