HATTIESBURG, MISS. PUTS UP STRONG RESULTS

ATLANTA – October 9, 2016 – Tennessee and Georgia rose to the top of the 2010 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships, played Oct. 7-9, in and around Chattanooga, Tenn.

Both teams had three champions and a finalist. Hattiesburg, Miss. was the most dominant municipality and had two champions and a finalist.

The 2016 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships were played at three facilities: the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park (tournament headquarters), Baylor School and The McCallie School.

There were 80 teams with approximately 750 players who competed for the right to represent USTA Southern at the USTA National Mixed Doubles Championships. Ten teams will advance in the following levels: 18 & Over – 2.5; 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 Combined and 40 & Over – 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 Combined. The Southern champions will compete in Arizona at the USTA championships, scheduled for November.

Teams consisted of at least three men and three women and each match consists of three courts. The combined NTRP rating of the two players on court must equal the level’s number. In the 2.5 level, all players must be rated 2.5. Most teams began play in a round-robin format. The winner of each flight met Sunday in the finals, except for the Adult 18 & Over 2.5 and 10.0 levels, which played a round robin only.
