Georgia Dominates in 2013 USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Sectional Championships

AUBURN, ALA. – Georgia took four of eight titles and placed three finalists in the 2013 USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Sectional Championships Sunday.
 
With two champions, Cherokee County, Ga. tied Wilmington, N.C. for the most championships by a locality. Louisville, Ky. and Ocean Springs, Miss. each had a titlist and a finalist. Augusta, Ga. was represented by two finalists.
 
Champions in 14 and Under and 18 and Under will have the opportunity to advance to the USTA Jr. Team Tennis Championships in Lexington, S.C. The 14s Championships are Oct. 17-20. The 18s Championships are Oct. 24-27.
 
USTA’s junior team program supports coed teams in four age levels. The teams, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, have finished at the top of their local leagues will play in 10 and Under, 12 and Under, 14 and Under, and 18 and Under levels. Within each age level, teams also play in two different skill levels: intermediate and advanced.
 
This year’s event drew the top 63 teams from throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
 
Matches were played at four sites in the Auburn area: Yarbrough Tennis Center (headquarters), Auburn University Intramural Tennis Courts, Samford Avenue Tennis Center and Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National.
