As a part of the 10 and Under Tennis program, USTA Southern is proud to award the first 10 and Under Tennis facility grant in the country to Milam Park of Clarkston, Ga.

Clarkston Mayor Emanuel Ransom, City Manager Keith Barker and Clarkston City Council members cut the ribbon opening the facility at ceremony and activity day sponsored by USTA Southern on Sept. 25.

Dozens of kids came out to play on the 36' and 60' courts, win prizes and enjoy the music. Also in attendance were USTA Southern Tennis Service Represenatives Mark Suiter and Bill Dopp who were instrumental in obtaining the USTA grant and enabling the city to converting the courts.

The grant is used to convert their two tennis courts into a 10 and Under Tennis facility with four permanent 36'courts on one court and 60' blended lines on the other 78ft court. With the help of a tennis professional, we will promote 10 and under play, utilizing programs such as Play Days, tennis festivals, intra-club play, parent/child events and Jr. Team Tennis leagues at this facility. To our knowledge, this is the first such facility in the United States. There will be ten more such facilities in the Southern section.

Clarkston is of particular interest due to the diversity of the city. We want children of all ages and cultures to be introduced and encouraged to play tennis. Thanks to the support of Barker, Ransom and the Clarkston City Council, the USTA was honored to upgrade the park's courts.

We want to acknowledge Mike McNulty, President of the USTA Southern and John Callen, the section's Executive Director and COO, for their vision with this project.
