Diane and Jack Barker
Under stormy skies the USA 55 ladies took the court against their strongest competition to date.
Susan Wright, at No. 2 singles, once again dominated her opponent with power and placement to win 6-1, 6-0.
I played No. 1 singles and took the court against Ros Balodis. Ros, was last year's No. 1 world player in the women's 50s and I've got the No. 1 ranking in the women's 55.
Both country fans and many other tennis players showed interest in this match as I am one of few players ever to beat Ros.
This match lived up to the expectations with many long points and games. I played well and prevailed with strong defense and accurate put-away shots 6-4, 6-0.
The doubles was played throughout a light rain and then for a while ... heavy rain along with strong winds. The USA had a lead 6-4, 6-7, 2-1 when the rain when the match was halted.
It was decided that the match would not be completed since the USA had one both singles.
Tomorrow Great Britain!!!
