David Hopkins
After rain delays and going from outdoors to indoors, we prevailed through our mixed doubles match.
Katherine Butler and I did not play our best but we were able to win ugly, as Brad Gilbert likes to say. We pulled it out 6-3, 6-3 against two players (Attila Azucki/Epiphany Turner) who were both fairly strong doubles players.
As our first time playing together, we really had to work out some kinks in our plays and learn the ins and outs of what we do on the doubles court. Being out there certainly reminded me of how much fun I had playing doubles at Wake Forest with my partner.
Doubles is one of the best things in tennis because it is so fun and high energy and just a great experience. You get to be on the court with someone and just enjoy battling and figuring out how to win alongside someone, and that alone is beyond exciting.
I am looking forward to our next match as we will really need to clean up our games to get the win. We're facing Richard Doverspike and Natalie Pluskota. Wish us luck though as I know we will pull it out!!!
CONGRATS TO TEAM USA!!!! We made it out of the group play!!! So from here on out it is going to be tough but I think we can really do well if some things fall in place for us!!! Bring on Belgium!!
