International Tennis Hall of Fame, 2010
Southern players and organizations are constantly making their mark in the world of tennis. Here's a list of recent awards, achievements and news in July 2010.
USTA Southern's Boys' 18s Advances To Nationals
USTA Southern defeated #2 seed, Texas, to advance to the semifinals of the USTA Boys 18 National Team championships at the Univ of Illinois. The Southern team finished third.
Maxx Lipman defeated Jeffrey Offerdahl in a third-set tiebreak to take the deciding point for USTA Southern against Texas. Southern also defeated top-ranked USTA Southern California.
Manny Diaz from UGA is the coach and team members are Nathan Pasha, Hunter Harrington, Garrett Brasseaux, Hunter Reese, Casey Kay, Harrison Richmond and Maxx Lipman.
Price receives Bill Talbert Sportsmanship Award
Caroline Price, of Duluth, Ga. received the Bill Talbert Sportsmanship Award at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, in Newport, R.I.
The award was announced earlier in the year.
In July, Price won the USTA National Clay Courts Championship in Memphis, Tenn.
