USTA Southern Combo Doubles League
USTA Atlanta is pleased to present its Spring 2009 Southern Combo Doubles League program to the tennis community. With an escalated increase of players participating in USTA leagues, the BMW Combo League is sure to be a hit. Three different divisions are offered (Weekday Women, Business Women – Weekends, and Men), with each division offering six combined division levels (5.0, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5). Team matches will consist of three doubles matches, with a 3rd set super-tiebreak being played in lieu of a 3rd complete set. This requires only a minimum of six players to form a team! To ensure a shorter season, the Southern Combo league schedule will plan for four to five matches per team. Contingent on the number of teams in your division level, a playoff tournament may be enforced to determine city champions.
The Spring 2008 season saw the league grow to 58 teams and over 600 players! We anticipate the USTA Southern Combo Doubles league to continue to grow for the next Spring season. Want to be part of the league? Form a team today! Shorter League Season: Approximately 4-6 team matches (with possible playoffs if needed). No Conflicts with Other Leagues: Business Women and Men teams will compete on Monday nights at 6:45 PM, while Weekday Women compete Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM. Transitional Period: Southern Combo League begins at the end of spring season and ends before summer USTA season. Keep your competitive edge and match play with your teammates during this transitional period. Convenient Team Match Format: Each team match will consist of 3 doubles matches. For time constraints, each individual doubles match will be the best 2-out-of-3 sets with a 10-point super-tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd complete set. "Home" vs. "Away" team matches apply to this league. Go to the 2009 GA State Championships: The Southern Combo League allows for another chance for your team to make it to the 2009 State Competition! City Champions for each division level gain a berth to the GA State Championships in Dalton, GA or Peachtree City, GA. Form a Team with Friends, Family, and Co-workers: Even if your team has different individual NTRP ratings, it doesn’t matter! Players of different ratings can play with each other, as long as a pair’s rating is within one point from another. (For example, a 3.5 player can play with a 4.0 player in the 7.5 division.) NTRP Ratings Not Affected: Individual NTRP ratings will not be affected by results of team matches. Players enter with their current NTRP rating. New players are allowed to self-rate. Low-cost Registration Fees: The registration cost for current USTA members is $8 per player ($5 registration fee and $3 TennisLink fee).
