Crowds were out this past Saturday at the Atlanta Athletic Club for the inaugural LIVE UNITED Tennis Classic. The exhibition matches did not begin until 4pm, but there was lots to take in before that. From 1:30 - 4 pm kids had the opportunity to try out the Quickstart format with pros Richard Woodroof and William Vasques. The winners of the Parent/Child round robin held previously at community events at Roswell Area Park and Atlanta Athletic Club also participated in a round robin the day of the event. A few lucky winners from community events got the chance to have their photo taken with Pete Sampras and Todd Martin before the match.
There were also a few after school programs who came out and participated for the day, among them were 100 Black Men and the First Serve program out of the Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club. The kids got to participate in on court activities, were provided lunch, and then got to attend the exhibition matches.
The exhibition matches featured GA Tech players in a wheelchair up/down exhibition featuring Karin Korb, followed by the exciting match between 'Pistol Pete' Sampras and Todd Martin. A big thank you to everyone who came out to the support the event, and also to our volunteers and staff who were instrumental in making the day happen!
