ATC Fifth Seed Fish Captures Title In Newport

Mardy Fish

NEWPORT, R.I., July 11, 2010 - Mardy Fish captured his fourth ATP World Tour win at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships for the Van Alen Cup in Newport on Sunday. Fish fired 24 aces past No. 4 seed Olivier Rochus of Belgium for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory in two hours and four minutes.

The victory will advance Fish about 30 spots to No. 49 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings on Monday. The victory was Fish's first grass court title, rounding out his list of victories which already included all other surfaces.

"It's a great tournament and I enjoy coming here. It means a lot to win here. It means a lot to win now on every surface in my career - indoor, outdoor, hard, clay and grass," said Fish. "I've certainly lost a lot of heartbreak finals, and it feels good to win one," said Fish.

Fish will now head to the Atlanta Tennis Championships in search of his fifth ATP title. Play begins in Atlanta on Monday, July 19, and Fish will look to continue his momentum after reaching two ATP finals (Queen’s Club and Newport) over the last month of competition.
