United States Tennis Association (USTA) Diversity & Inclusion Summer Internship

USTA Southern is seeking college student applicants for an 8-9 week paid summer internship available pursuant to USTA D&I Intern Program. 


  • Currently enrolled as a rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, communications, sports management, or a related field*
  • Familiarity with USTA and/or the nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with Windows, Microsoft/Google products

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Experience conducting research
  • Multi-task oriented and problem solver
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess skills in social media, videos, graphic design
  • Interest in tennis, sports and/or nonprofit
  • Interest in diversity and inclusion
  • Proficient in Spanish, a plus


The intern will assist the Director of Diversity, NJTL & Grants with support for day to day administration as well as special projects and events. The internship is a mix of data reporting, communication of diversity and inclusion initiatives, National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) guidance, marketing, and program management which may include, but not limited to, the USTA Foundation NJTL Essay Contest, Truist Atlanta Open, Youth Leadership Council development, and other community tennis events. The assistant will also collaborate with other departments, stakeholders, and committee members. For this internship opportunity, USTA Southern strongly encourages rising juniors and seniors from Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU) to apply.

TENTATIVE TIMEFRAME:  June 15 - August 14, 2020 (Some weekend work may be required.)

HOURLY WAGE:  $10.50 an hour, up to 29 hours a week / 8-9 weeks


1. Assist with volunteer support and grants for committees:  Adaptive, Wheelchair, Diversity and National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL)

2. Communicate with state marketing staff to promote diverse monthly observances for social media and Facebook

3. Research, identify and develop a list of diverse contacts/tennis providers for each state in the USTA Southern Section

4. Assist with the USTA Foundation NJTL Essay Contest judging and selection

5. Assist with formation and planning of NJTL Youth Leadership Council/Conference

6.Assist with coordination, communication and event premiums for the SPUD event

7. Compile and organize materials in support of the Southern Tennis Foundation (STF) Scholarship and junior financial assistance program.

8. Attend and assist with community engagement events at the Truist Atlanta Open and selected local, state and sectional championships

Participate on committee calls and selected USTA and professional development webinars
At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will complete an evaluation survey, review position with onsite supervisors, and make a final presentation to staff about the internship.

Finalist must successful complete NCSI/SafePlay background screening
Position based in Peachtree Corners, GA, and does not include housing or relocation
