USTA Southern Prevails In Senior Men's Tournament

USTA Southern's adult men won a nailbiter agains USTA Florida to take the Keith Donoff Cup at the Asheville (N.C.) Racquet Club Downtown, played Aug 3-5. USTA Southern won the cup by one match over the Florida team. Armisted
Neely’s two-and-half hour, three-set battle with Geoff Moore (FL) was the deciding match for the Southern victory.
 
Southern's team defeated USTA Texas and USTA Midwest in previous action during the event.Senior men from four USTA Sections -- Texas, Florida, Midwest and Southern -- will compete in three divisions: 55s ,60s and 65s. The teams will play a round robin team format of 3 singles and 2 doubles.
 
The Southern Team consisted of men’s 55s: Adam Brock, Rob Castorri, Horace Reid, Larry Schnall and Oliver Scott. The men’s 60s were: Tom Smith, Graham Snook, Marty Pearson, Roger Pearce and Fritz Gildenmeister. The men’s 65s were: Neely, Hugh Thomson, Thay Butchee, Bailey Brown and captain Steve Duffel.
 
In 2013 this event will be hosted by USTA Texas at a hard court site to be determined.
