USTA Southern Players in French Open

USTA Southern is well represented in Paris, with 10 players total in the French Open and the French Open junior championships.

Jamie Hampton of Auburn, AL, won her first 3 matches of the French Open, but fell short in the fourth round, losing 0-6, 2-6 to Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

Melanie Oudin, a Marietta, GA, native won her first match of the French Open 6-4, 6-3, but was defeated 3-6, 1-6, in the second round by Jie Zheng of China. Oudin and her partner Melanie Keys lost their first doubles round 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

John Isner, a native of Greensboro, NC lost a tough match in the third round of the US Open with a score of 5-7, 6(4)-7, 6-4, 7-6(10), 8-10. Isner saved 12 match points to win the fourth set against Tommy Haas of Germany.

Wild card Shelby Rogers of Daniel Island, SC won the first set 6-3 in her second round match of the French Open, but lost the following 2 sets 4-6, 4-6 to 20th seed Carla Suarez Navarro.

Shreveport, LA native Ryan Harrison lost 7-5, 7(9)-6(7), 3-6, 1-6, 6-8 in the second round of the US Open to fellow American John Isner.

Taylor Townsend, formerly of Stockbridge, GA, won a quick third round match in the French Open junior championships against Victoria Rodriguez of Mexico. Townsend won the 64 minute match 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. 

Former Georgia Tech player Irina Falconi lost her first doubles match 5-7, 2-6 with partner Mervana Jugic-Salkic.

Norcross, GA native Grace Min lost in the first round of the French Open 6-4, 4-6, 5-7 to Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan.

Knoxville, TV native Rhyne Williams lost 3-6, 7-6(5), 5-7, 5-7 in the 1st round of the French Open.

Mallory Burdette, a native of Jackson, GA defeated her opponent 6-3,6-4 in the first round of the French Open, but fell short the second round, losing 3-6,2-6 to Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.
