USTA Southern 10 and Under Tennis May Facility Winners

USTA Southern is proud to announce the 10 and Under Tennis Facility of the Month Awards for May 2012.

This award recognizes one facility a month from each of our nine states. These facilities have done an outstanding job with their 10 and Under Tennis programming by offering Jr. Team Tennis, tournaments, Play Days and modified equipment and courts for 10 and Under Tennis. One facility per state will be honored each month.
 
The winning facilities for May are…
 
ALABAMA
 
Athletic Club Alabama
Huntsville, Ala.
Eddie Jacques, Owner
Athletic Club Alabama is quickly becoming one of the premier 10 and Under Tennis facilities in the state of Alabama. All 8 of their soft outdoor courts are lined for 10 and Under play. They have made great strides by hosting a 10 and Under High Performance Camp in April and also helping coordinate Junior Team Tennis in the Hunstville area.
 
 
ARKANSAS
Jonesboro Country Club
Jonesboro, Ark.
Gary Jones, Director of Tennis
Jonesboro Country Club is currently offering 10 and Under Tennis on their lined courts. The Club is participating in Junior Team Tennis at both the 8 and Under and 10 and Under levels, and has recently started to use the green ball for their 12 and Under beginners. 

GEORGIA
Cooper Creek Tennis Center
Columbus, Ga.
Mark Ruzeski, Director of Tennis
Cooper Creek was one of the first facilities in the state of Georgia to embrace 10 and Under Tennis. They have a strong Elementary JTT league with 237 participants. CORTA (Columbus Regional Tennis Association) runs the CORTA Jr. Banana Open, several other 10 and Under Sanctioned Tournaments, and Play Days at the complex. They also recently hosted a Smazh Zone event.
 
KENTUCKY
Louisville Boat Club
Louisville, Ky.
Mark Fraley, Director of Tennis
The Louisville Boat Club has permanent lines on two courts and start teaching kids tennis at the age of 4. They have approximately 110 kids in their 10 and Under programming. The Boat Club will partcipate in the 10 and Under Junior Team Tennis League this summer in Louisville. 
 
LOUISIANA
Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club
Alexandria, La.
Francisco Acuna, Director of Tennis
Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club uses all of the proper 10 and Under Tennis equipment on their 4 permanently lined courts. They have participated in the Junior Team Tennis Leagues for 10 and Under and regularly send their pros to 10 and Under Training programs. Francisco has also formed a partnership with Alexandria Country Day School where he teaches tennis classes every school morning. The school also has 2 courts with permanent lines. 
 
MISSISSIPPI
Laurel Country Club
Laurel, Miss.
Bo Gard, Director of Tennis
Laurel Country Club has about 40 kids weekly in 10 and Under programming. They have formed three Junior Team Tennis Teams for 2012 (two 10 and Under and 1 8 and Under). The Club sells 10 and Under equipment in their Pro Shop and hosted a regional USTA Player Development Camp for 10 and Under players in 2011 and 2012 with 77 participants between the two years.

NORTH CAROLINA
Bur-Mil Park
Greensboro, N.C.
Kelly Parker, Director of 10 and Under Tennis
Bur-Mil Park and Precision Tennis Academy are making great strides creating opportunities for 10 and Under Tennis in the Triad. With four permanent 36’ courts and six blended line courts, the facility hosts Junior Team Tennis twice a year, Team NC 10 and Under initiatives and programs for beginner, intermediate and advanced 10 and Under players.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA
Family Circle Tennis Center
Daniel Island, S.C.
Rob Eppelsheimer, Facilities Director
Family Circle Tennis Center is one of the best public facilities in the Southeast. The facility features four permanent 36' courts, 60' courts, and hosts the SMASH Junior Cup. They offer programming for children 10 and Under starting in pre-school. 

TENNESSEE
Blackthorn Club
Jonesborough, Tenn.
John Lucchesi, Head Pro
During the late spring and in the summer John’s 10 and Under Tennis program really ramps up. He does a great job incorporating all the components of 10 and Under Tennis in his drills and games with the kids. He also does a great job marketing the tennis programming to the members of the club, and has a majority of the member’s kids involved in tennis. His courts have blended lines, and the kids enjoy going out there and smacking some tennis balls around!
