USTA Southern 10 and Under Tennis June Facility Winners

USTA Southern is proud to announce the 10 and Under Tennis Facility of the Month Awards for June 2012.

This award recognizes one facility a month from each of our nine states. These facilities have done an outstanding job with their 10 and Under Tennis programming by offering Jr. Team Tennis, tournaments, Play Days and modified equipment and courts for 10 and Under Tennis. One facility per state will be honored each month.
 
The winning facilities for May are…
 
ALABAMA
 
O'Connor Tennis Center
Montgomery, Ala.
Ben Bradshaw, Director of Tennis
O'Connor Tennis Center is a facility which has gotten very creative to accomodate 10 and Under Tennis. They took a former shuffleboard court and converted it into two permanent 36' courts. Since the conversion, they have been succesful in hosting Junior Team Tennis and tournaments at the 10 and Under level.
 
ARKANSAS
Little Rock Athletic Club
Little Roac, Ark.
Linda Sneed, Director of Tennis
Little Rock Athlatic Club has embraced the 10 and Under Tennis model and seen much success because of it. They participated in JTT at the 10 and Under level for the first time this year and had a total of three teams. Linda Sneed says "Every since we started using the 8U and 10U format, I have seen an amazing jump in the learning curve for the kids in both their skill levels and their fun levels!"

GEORGIA
Cooper Creek Tennis Center
Columbus, Ga.
Mark Ruzeski, Director of Tennis
Cooper Creek was one of the first facilities in the state of Georgia to embrace 10 and Under Tennis. They have a strong Elementary JTT league with 237 participants. CORTA (Columbus Regional Tennis Association) runs the CORTA Jr. Banana Open, several other 10 and Under Sanctioned Tournaments, and Play Days at the complex. They also recently hosted a Smazh Zone event.
 
KENTUCKY
Brooking Park
Georgetown, Ky.
Julie Dick
Brooking Park hs been involved in Junior Team Tennis at the 10 and Under level for the past 2 years. Between their 8 and Under and 10 and Under teams, they have about 100 kids participating! They also offer various clinics throughout the year on their 6 courts that have been lined for 10 and Under Tennis.
 
LOUISIANA
Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club
Alexandria, La.
Francisco Acuna, Director of Tennis
Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club uses all of the proper 10 and Under Tennis equipment on their 4 permanently lined courts. They have participated in the Junior Team Tennis Leagues for 10 and Under and regularly send their pros to 10 and Under Training programs. Francisco has also formed a partnership with Alexandria Country Day School where he teaches tennis classes every school morning. The school also has 2 courts with permanent lines. 
 
MISSISSIPPI
Laurel Country Club
Laurel, Miss.
Bo Gard, Director of Tennis
Laurel Country Club has about 40 kids weekly in 10 and Under programming. They have formed three Junior Team Tennis Teams for 2012 (two 10 and Under and 1 8 and Under). The Club sells 10 and Under equipment in their Pro Shop and hosted a regional USTA Player Development Camp for 10 and Under players in 2011 and 2012 with 77 participants between the two years.

NORTH CAROLINA
Charlotte Country Club
Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte Country Club has converted two of its clay courts into four beautiful, permanent 36' clay courts. They also have put blended lines onto four hard courts and one clay court. These facility renovations have increased play among juniors and the club has eight JTT teams this spring consisting of 85 junior players. 
 
SOUTH CAROLINA
Sportsclub- Greenville
Greenville, S.C.
Dave Carrick, Director of Tennis
Sportsclub- Greenville has seen great improvements in their Junior programming since focusing on 10 and Under Tennis. In May, they hosted a very successful tournament for 10 and Unders utilizing their eight sets of Har-Tru lines. They also have three 10 and Under JTT teams that are continuing to improve and love playing tennis!

TENNESSEE
Bluegrass Country Club
Hendersonville, Tenn.
Bill Riddle, Head Pro
Bill Riddle and Bluegrass Country Club have fully embraced the 10 and Under format. The courts at the club have permanent lines which have helped increase their participation by 25% from last year. The facility can be seen hosting clinics, JTT, USTA Play Days, and Early Development Camps.
