USTA Atlanta Named USTA Organization Member Of The Year

February 21, 2013 02:37 PM
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) will present USTA Atlanta/Atlanta Community Tennis Association in Atlanta with the USTA Organization Member of the Year Award. The award is given annually to an organization that provides outstanding service to its members and the local community. The honor will be given at the USTA Annual Meeting on March 17 in Weston, Fla.

The Atlanta CTA was also named 2013 USTA Southern CTA of the Year.

The Atlanta Community Tennis Association (ACTA) was founded in 1980 as a nonprofit organization to serve the Atlanta metropolitan area. Today, the organization has reached a record 55,000 members and offers the largest USTA adult and junior league play programs in the United States.

USTA Atlanta was the first league to implement the new rules of tennis into its Jr. Team Tennis Leagues program. In the forefront of the sport, the organization hosts a 10 and Under Tennis and an 8-and-under tennis tournament at the end of each winter and summer season. In addition, the association runs several community outreach programs, including the Atlanta Youth Tennis & Education Foundation, which serves nearly 2,500 children and focuses on empowering youth to be successful through tennis and education opportunities, including summertime tennis and after-school programs.

"The Atlanta Community Tennis Association offers play opportunities for players of all ages and abilities," said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. "It is a model organization and continues to grow the game of tennis by positively impacting the lives of its constituents on and off the court."

The USTA Annual Meeting and Conference brings together USTA leadership, national staff, national committee members and section volunteers and staff in pursuit of the USTA mission: To promote and develop the growth of tennis. Along with leadership and committee meetings, the Annual Meeting provides educational opportunities for all attendees to develop and enhance their personal and professional skills and learn new ways to promote the game.
