Tennis Championships Coming to Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island, SC- The USTA SC 40 and Over League State Championships are coming to Hilton Head Island.  Nearly 100 teams comprised of over 1,000 players will be competing at sites across the island May 17-20.  This is the first year that teams have competed in this new 40 and over age division, which was put in place to give players more opportunities to participate.  The Hilton Head area boasts 15 teams, from 12 different facilities, in the championships. The main site for the event will be the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, but a total of eight sites around the island will be used to accommodate the hundreds of players.
Teams will start arriving Friday night to enjoy a player party, and captains will check in and get critical information at the captain’s meeting.  Play starts bright and early Saturday morning as teams will be divided into four team groups within their NTRP skill division.  The winners of round robin play will face off in the semi-finals, with the finalists facing off on Monday.
Champions from each division will advance to the USTA Southern Section Championships which will be held in Asheville, NC for the NTRP 3.0 and 4.0 divisions and in Mobile, AL for the 3.5 and 4.5+ divisions.
