The titles were won in very different fashions, but the result was the same: The Southern Section women from Memphis, Tenn., and the Caribbean Section men from Gurabo, P.R., won the 2014 USTA League Adult 40 & Over 3.0 National Championships held at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Memphis won a pair of squeakers on its way to the title, edging the Southern California Section squad from Calabasas, Calif., 3-2, in the semifinals, and then defeating the Texas Section team from Austin, Texas, by the same count in the championship match.

Calabasas defeated the Northern California Section team from Diablo, Calif., in the third-place match.

Gurabo, meantime, had an easier road on its path to a Nationals title, scoring a pair of 4-1 victories – over the Midwest Section team from Stow, Ohio, in the semifinals and against the Southern Section team from Mandeville, La., in the final.

Stow rebounded to claim third place, defeating the Intermountain squad from Colorado Springs, Colo., in the consolation match.
