Savannah Challenger Runs April 19-27

March 2, 2014 03:49 PM

This marks the 6th consecutive year that Har-Tru USTA Pro Circuit Wild Card Challenger has called Savannah home. Last year was a thrilling year with players such as Mardy Fish, Ryan Harrison (2013 Champion), Michael Russell, Jack Sock, Ivo Karlovic, Nicolas Massu (2 time Gold Medalist), Donald Young and many more. This was the strongest field we have ever had at the Savannah Challenger.

The Savannah Challenger and the USTA Pro Circuit are designed to bring some of the world’s finest tennis players to our city. Challenger tournaments are usually held for ATP players with a world ranking between 40-200 but in the case of last year Fish entered the tournament ranked in the top 20 in the world.

The USTA Challenger series allows more American players to stay here at home and improve their rankings on the ATP World Tour. If they are successful in building their rankings they have the opportunity to get directly into the main draw to the higher level tournaments including the Grand Slams. Points earned during the Savannah Challenger count towards the USTA Wildcard entry into the 2014 French Open held in Paris, France in May.

The 2013 Savannah Challenger was an extremely successful event winning praise from tournament players, officials and spectators. It was so successful that Georgia Power and the Savannah Sports Council awarded the Savannah Challenger the 2013 Sporting Event of the Year! With local, national and international exposure our city and our sponsors were able to tell their stories of what makes Savannah a great place to live, work and play.

The tournament provides sponsors and advertisers the opportunity to reach large audiences, have several weeks of exposure locally and nationally and appeal to diverse demographic groups. Media coverage includes print, radio, TV and the web. In 2013 the Savannah Challenger website had more than 35,000 visits and for the first time ever the entire week of play was streamed live around the world. This feature will again be part of the 2014 Savannah Challenger with additional marketing options for our sponsors.

For additional information on how your organization can participate, please contact: Scott Mitchell, Tournament Director at 912-598-3501 or scott.mitchell@landingsclub.com.
