Pelham $25K Tournament Set For April 9

Heidi El Tabakh defeated Edina Gallovits-Hall 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to claim the singles title.
Julie Coin and Marie-Eve Pelletier won the doubles title by defeating Elena Bovina and Ekaterina Bychkova 7-5, 6-4.

Shelby Rogers defeated Sofia Shapatava 6-4, 6-4 in the first round. Rogers second round opponent is Coco Vandeweghe. They face off on Thursday, April 12.

Shelby Rogers of Daniel Island, SC has advanced through qualifying to the first round of the tournament. Rogers won three matches in order to qualify for the $25K Pro Circuit Challenger. Rogers defeated Katarzyna Piter in the last qualifying round 6-2, 6-3. The 19 year old faces Sofia Shapatava in the first round on April 11.

The Pelham Racquet Club will be hosting the Women’s $25K Pro Circuit Challenger from April 9 -17 in Pelham, Ala. This event is presented by the Rick and Bubba Show. The tournament is played on clay courts and has a history of producing scintillating matches between up and coming women’s tennis professionals. This will be the ninth consecutive year that this event has been hosted in Pelham.
Last year, Marina Erakovic from New Zealand won the singles title by beating Renata Voracova 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Also, the top-seeded Liga Dekmeijere and Marie-Eve Pelletier won the doubles title by defeating Kimberly Couts and Heidi El Tabakh 2-6, 6-4 [12-10].
