TUCSON, ARIZ. – The Caribbean section men’s team and Southern section women’s team were crowned champions at the USTA League Adult 40 & Over 3.0 National Championships at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center.

The Caribbean men’s team, from Bayamon, P.R., registered a pair of 3-2 victories on the final day of play to secure the title. Bayamon scored a semifinal victory over the Texas section men’s team from Plano before defeating the Southern section men’s team from Covington, La., in the final.

“It has truly been an exciting three days,” said Captain Heriberto Ponton. “We appreciate the support and the continued success and traditions of the Puerto Rico team.”

Also wearing bright smiles on Sunday morning were the members of the the Southern section women’s team, from Louisville, Ky. They also went to the wire in both matches, scoring a 3-2 victory over the Texas section women’s team from McKinney before prevailing in the final over the Northern California section women’s team from Walnut Creek, Calif., also 3-2.

“When we started this journey, it was to make it to the state championships and have a girls’ weekend away,” said Captain Justina Powers. “I can’t believe that we won Nationals!”
