Southern players and organizations are constantly making their mark in the world of tennis. Here's a list of recent awards, achievements and news in February 2012.
 
Kwiatkowski picked to play in ITF junior tournaments
Thai Kwiatkowski, of Charlotte, N,C., has been selected to be one of four boys to play in six ITF Junior tournaments in South America. Coached by Sanford Boster, Kwiatkowski will have an good opportunity to boost his world ranking. The tournaments are:  
 
  • Mendoza, Argentina – Argentina Cup (G2)
  • Santiago, Chile – Copa Milo (G2)
  • Montevideo, Uruguay – Uruguay Bowl (G2)
  • Asuncion, Paraguay – Asuncion Bowl (G1)
  • Carvalho, Brazil – Banana Bowl (G1)
  • Porto Alegre, Brazil – Copa Gerdau (GA)
Florence Tennis Center wins facility award
The City of Florence is a winner of the 2011 Outdoor Tennis Facility Award, presented by the American Sports Builders Association. Talbot Tennis was recognized for its court construction work on the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence.
 
The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the national organization for builders and suppliers of materials for tennis courts, running tracks, fields and indoor sports flooring annually recognizes tennis, track, field, and indoor facilities which exemplify construction excellence. A panel of ASBA members judges entries on elements such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation, and overall impression.
 
The Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center opened on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 and is located at 1060 N. Cashua Drive. The Tennis Center features 24 asphalt courts, 6 Har-Tru clay courts, a 5000 SF Tennis Activity Center with outdoor decking. The activity center also includes a lounge area, student study area with computers, restrooms, locker rooms, meeting and office space and a pro shop. The Florence Tennis Center hosts league play, open/free play, special instruction and developmental tennis clinics.
