Little Rock, AR Picks Up Two Top Four Finishes at USA League Tennis National Championships

The city of Little Rock, AR had much to celebrate the weekend of September 18. While a women’s 5.0 team captured the USA League Tennis National Title in Palm Springs, CA a second Little Rock team - Women's 3.0 - battled to a third place finish in Tucson, AZ.

The 5.0 competition was held at the Riviera Resort & Racquet Club and Moore Tennis Academy in Palm Springs while the 3.0 tournament was held at Randolph Park in Tucson.

The Women's 5.0 Little Rock team, defeated a team from Bloomfield, MI, (2-1) in the championship match. Earlier in the day, they defeated Walnut Creek, CA, (2-1) in the semifinals. They advanced to the final four by winning their round-robin flight.

The 5.0 team is captained by Ann Tarwater and teammates include Paula Jules, Erika Bove, Kendra Meichsner, Monica Noblin, and Stephanie Tharp.

Little Rock's 3.0 team advanced to the final four after dominating their round robin flight, but lost 3-2 in a close seminfinal contest to a team from Sunnyvale, CA. However, they quickly recovered to take the 3rd / 4th place matchup over a team from High Point, TX.

The 3.0 team is captained by Tiffany Adams and teammates include Nancy L Childress, Karrie Wroten, Pamela Sparks, Carol Mugerditchian, Bridget Hawkins, Christie Stobaugh, Melanie Riley, Sheree Meyer, Christy Bray, Kathy Robinson, Janee Waner, Kelly Parker and Susan Olmsted.

This year’s USA League Tennis 5.0 Adult National Championships have drawn the top 34 teams (17 women’s and 17 men’s) from throughout the United States.

USA League Tennis presented by Lincoln is the world’s largest recreational tennis league with more than 500,000 players throughout the country. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the United States Tennis Association through its 17 sectional associations. The league groups players by ability using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced). Players progress through a series of championships at the area and sectional levels culminating with the national championships. USA League Tennis is open to any USTA member age 19 and older. The league provides players with the opportunity to improve their skills, have fun, meet other players, travel throughout the country and compete in a USTA national championship.
