2002 SUPER SENIORS SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Columbus, GA
February 14-16, 2003

FACT SHEET

WHAT:
Competition among the South's best Super Seniors teams in two age divisions: Super Seniors 60 with 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 levels for men's and women's teams and Super Seniors 70 with 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 levels for men's and women's teams (approximately 100 teams total).

WHO:
Over 1,000 Super Seniors tennis players aged 60 years and older from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee who have won their respective divisions in Super Seniors 60 and Super Seniors 70 at the state level.

WHEN:
Play begins Friday, February 14 and ends Sunday, February 16, 2002. Daily team matches begin at 8:00 a.m. Each division will be scheduled for three days of play. If the size of the event warrants a staggered schedule, the Super Seniors 60s will be scheduled Friday-Sunday and the Super Seniors 70s will be scheduled Saturday-Monday. Players may play in both Super Seniors 60s and Super Seniors 70s; however, there will be no accommodation to schedules.

WHERE:
Columbus, GA - Matches will be played at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center (30 clay courts), 4816 Milgen Road, Columbus, GA 31907, 706-563-4645. The Holiday Inn North, 2800 Manchester Expressway, Columbus, GA 31907, (706-324-0231) is the Headquarter Hotel.

MATCH FORMAT:
Three doubles matches for each team match are played in round robin competition. Each division has two groups with five teams in the round robin competition, with group winners meeting in the finals.

HISTORY:
Super Seniors is a USTA Southern Section league program with approximately 4,000 players. The program is open to women and men in two age divisions: 60 years and older and 70 and older. Players from over 100 cities in the nine southern states experience the camaraderie and competition as play progresses through local, state and sectional competition. This is the fifth year a Sectional Championships has been offered.

A not-for-profit organization, the USTA is divided into 17 sections, of which the USTA Southern Section is the largest. The 165,000 USTA members living in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee make up the USTA Southern Section, which accounts for more than 25% of the total USTA membership.
