Duluth, Ga.'s Jordan Cox compiled a standout run in the Wimbeldon boys' singles tournament but stopped in the final by Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia, 4-6, 6-2, 6,2.

Last summer Cox won the USTA Boys' 16s National Championship in Kalamazoo, Mich., with a victory over Denis Kudla 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-3.

In a match that foreshadowed the extraordinary fifth set score of Roger Federer and Andy Roddick in the men's final, Cox defeated NCAA Division I singles champion Devin Britton 6-3, 6-7(5), 16-14 in the semifinals. The two Southerns battled for one hour and twenty-four minutes in the last set.

Cox's statistics were slightly better than Jackson, Miss.'s Britton as he had 62 winners along with 30 unforced errors. Britton's totals were 63 winners compared to 37 unforced errors. Both players smashed 123-mile-an-hour serves.

Britton, an Ole Miss player, needed three sets to defeat Alexander Domijan 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4. Domijan, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., is the top ranked junior in the U.S.

Cox knocked off fourth-seed Agustin Velotti of Argentina 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Britton eliminated Sebastian Lavie of New Zealand 6-4, 7-5. Britton, who plays for Ole Miss, became the first freshman to win the top NCAA singles crown this spring.

Cox upset the eleventh-seed David Souto of Venezuela 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3.

Britton and Cox captured the AEGON International Junior Doubles Championship earlier in June, defeating Pierre Hugues Hebert of France and Stanislav Poplavskyy of Ukraine 6-3, 6-2. Britton also won the London-based tournament's junior singles crown over Argentina's Facundo Arguello 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(7).

Another Southerner, Tennys Sandgren of Gallatin, Tenn., lost to Slovak Filip Horansky 3-6, 7-6(10) 6-4.
