Southern Juniors Capture Two Orange Bowl Titles

December 10, 2008 05:15 PM

Jarmere Jenkins of College Park, Ga. and Devin Britton of Brandon, Miss. continued their winning ways by capturing the Dunlop Orange Bowl Boys’ 18s Doubles Championships. Earlier this month they won the 2008 Boys’ 18s doubles Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships, giving them two of the most prestigious titles in juniors.

Jenkins made the singles final but lost to Yuki Bhambri of India 6-1-6-3. Jenkins got some revenge when he and Britton defeated Bahbri and American Chase Buchanan 7-6(7), 6-2 in the doubles final.

Also victorious in doubles was Lauren Herring of Greenville, N.C. and Grace Min of Lawrenceville, Ga. who won the girls’ 16s doubles final in a walkover.

But the story this week was unquestionably the success of the Americans, who captured six of the eight contested titles here this week, led by the American girls, who took all four titles at the Dunlop Orange Bowl in Key Biscayne, Fla. While one can’t predict the future, this week’s results certainly bode well for the outlook of American tennis.
