Richmond Takes Orange Bowl Championship

December 30, 2008 04:41 PM

Harrison Richmond of Pawleys Island, S.C was crowned Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in the boys’ 14s with a quick 6-4, 6-1 victory over Canada's Edward Nguyen.

Richmond, who also used the first name John, was the only American winner of four titles at the 47th annual tournament played at Miami’s Biltmore Tennis Center. He was just the third American to win the boys' 14s in the past 20 years.

“I knew he wasn't playing his best. I've seen him play before, and I know when he's playing well. I knew I just needed to make shots. … I came out a little nervous,'' said Richmond, who won the 14s at the National Hard Courts in San Antonio this year.
