Team "Georgia" from Cochran, Ga., representing the USTA Southern reached the finals of the 2008 USTA 18 & Under Jr. Team Tennis National Championships (Intermediate Division). Team "The Jr. NY Buzz" from Schenectady, N.Y. representing the USTA Eastern won the final 57-35.

Team "Chattanooga Storm" from Chattanooga, Tenn. finished as the finalists in the 2008 14 & Under (Intermediate) USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships. The team representing USTA Southern lost to Team "PVCC Elite" of PVCC Elite, Granada Hills, Calif.

October was a special month for USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis. With the opportunity to host the Jr. Team Tennis National Championships in Mobile, Alabama the last two weekends of October were packed full of competition and fun.

“The 2008 USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships were held for the first time at the largest public tennis facility in the county, Mobile Tennis Center, in Mobile, Alabama,” said Marikate Murren. “We were so fortunate to take advantage of a 60 lighted court facility in which the team atmosphere, energy and enthusiasm reached an all time high. From the comments I received, the players, coaches, parents and spectators thoroughly enjoyed the tennis and the event site. We look forward to returning next year.”

From the Wii challenge to the player parties at the USS Alabama Battleship, these were two weekends of non-stop fun! In between the matches, players had the opportunity to compete in the Top Spin 3 Wii Challenge match. If they were able to defeat the computer, they were placed in a drawing to win a Maria Sharapova jacket! The winners were Lauren Sara Altschuler from Greensboro, NC (14 & under Division) and Julia Keenan from New England’s advanced section (18 & under Division).

Each team had the opportunity to create a banner representing their team spirit. This year, team Georgia from Cochran, Georgia won the Best Team Banner Award!
