Lyons Park Summer Program Featured on TV

July 30, 2008 10:47 AM

Joe Emer, the Fox 10 TV sports announcer opened a recent segment with, “Venus and Serena, Roger and Raffy, tennis’ biggest names put on a show this month at Wimbledon. But every summer the Lyons Park Tennis Association in Mobile puts on a show of their own.” While Emer might have missed on Rafael Nadal’s nickname, he sure got it right when he reported about the progress made by the Lyons Park summer program in Mobile, Ala.

In the report Emer interviewed Camp Director James Richardson after he instructed one youth on why an accurate toss will help his serve. Richardson also talked about why he taught life lessons and friendship at the intercity camp. The report also included a highlight of Arthur Ashe, an inspiration for many African-American youngsters attending the program.
