Southern Juniors Outshine Competition in National Showings

Melanie Oudin from Marietta, GA, took home this years Girl’s 18s singles title at the 2008 Easter Bowl. Oudin teamed with partner Grace Min, of Lawrenceville, GA, and made a strong run but ultimately fell in the semifinal round. Oudin is currently ranked No. 2 in the world in juniors. Mallory Burdette from, Jackson, GA, and doubles partner Sloan Stephens, took home the doubles title. Gallatin Tennessee native, Tennys Sandgren has an exciting run as he made it all the way to the semifinal round in the Boys 18 singles, before being eliminated.

The 2008 Easter Bowl was held at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, CA. Although the 18s divisions are considered ITF events as well as USTA events, only American juniors with a high enough ITF and USTA ranking where allowed to compete in the tournament. Over a week span the tournament crowed winners in six different age categories, Boys & Girls 14's, Boys & Girls 16's, and Boys & Girls 18's. Results for the Spring National Championships are below:
