Southern Juniors Have Stellar Showings at National Championships

Southern Section juniors proved that the future talent of American tennis could lie within our Southern borders as USTA National Hard Court Championships came to a close last weekend. Southern Section juniors were represented in every final round of the Girl's 14s, 16s, and 18s USTA National Hard Court Competition.

Grace Min picked up her sixth National Championships title and added two gold balls to her collection. Min won the G14 National Hard Courts in Singles and teamed with singles runner-up, Whitney Kay of Alpharetta, Ga., to snag the doubles title. The duo paired together earlier this summer to win the G14 National Clay Courts doubles title where Grace also edged out Kay for the singles title. Earlier this year Min picked up the doubles title at the G14 Spring National Championships with partner Lauren Herring of Greenville, NC. Lauren who played up in the Girl's 16 division in the USTA National Hard Courts took home second place at the Championships.

Melanie Oudin, Marietta, Ga., and Jamie Hampton, Auburn Ala., teamed up to win a gold ball in the Girl's 18 USTA National Hard Court doubles competition. Melanie finished a respective third in singles competition and has earned a wildcard entry into the US Open Juniors draw. The pair received a wildcard bid and have secured a spot in the US Open doubles draw.

In the Boy's division Tennys Sandgren of Gallatin, Tn., took home the singles title in the Boy's 16s and is hoping for a wildcard entry into the US Open tournament. Jarmere Jenkins who is in the qualifying tournament for the US Open, teamed with Kraiceck to take third in the Boy's 18s doubles draw.
