Grace Min Reaches Semifinals at Les Petit As

February 8, 2007 10:03 AM

Grace Min has been on a roll lately on the junior tennis circuit, and she continued her outstanding play last week by reaching the semifinals at the 25th Les Petit As in Tarbes, France.

Along with teammates Nicole Gibbs, Sloane Stephens and Ellen Tsay, American teens were a dominant force at the event. Min only lost to Hanna Orlik, the tournament winner and #1 14s player in the world. Sailing through 3 qualifying matches, Min beat the #2 and #16 girls along the way. Her success is even more amazing when you realize that Grace is only 12 years old. Teammate Nicole Gibbs made it to the finals where she lost to Orlik. The team was led by USTA National Coach Wade McGuire, posting the best results by American players in years!

Les Petits As is referred to by many as the best U14's event internationally. Past champions include Martina Hingis, Kim Clijsters, Michael Chang, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Lindsay Davenport who was a finalist in 1990. In 2003 Donald Young won the boys singles and doubles (with Leo Rosenberg); in 2004, Madison Brengle reached the singles finals; and in 2005 Chase Buchanan won the boys singles and doubles and Asia Muhammad and Brittany Augustine won the girls doubles. In 2006 Raymond Sarmiento and Christina McHale reached the quarterfinals of Les Petits As. This event provides an excellent developmental experience and gives our players an opportunity to build on their ITF World Junior Ranking.
