Southern Players Snag Wildcards into USTA Pro Circuit Event

May 11, 2006 04:55 PM

The $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit Challenger to be held in Palm Beach Gardens, FL awarded all three wildcard bids to Southern Section natives Chelsey Gullickson, Mallory Cecil, and Reka Zsilinszksa. The tournament, set to begin May 15th at Ballenisles Country Club, will consist of a singles draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 teams.

Chelsey Gullickson, originally from Nashville, TN, was the finalist in last month’s USTA International Spring Championship held in Carson, California. This past year she has also made quarter and semi-final appearances in two international tournaments. In 2005, playing in only the third ITF 18-and-under event of her career, as a 14-year-old she won the doubles title and reached the singles semifinals at the Torneo Internacional Inka Bowl, in Lima, Peru.

Mallory Cecil, originally from Spartanburg, SC, reached the quarterfinals of the girl’s 18 USTA Spring National Championships this past March. From there she teamed with Nelly Radeva to make a quarterfinal doubles appearance at the USTA International Spring Championships.

Reka Zsilinszka has had an incredible run on the junior tennis circuit as of late. The 16-year-old from Fayetteville, NC, just took home her third straight singles title at the girls’ 18 USTA Spring National Championships in Mobile, AL, extending her winning streak to an impressive 19 straight matches.
