2005 NJTL Tennis Leadership Camp Applications Due June 7, 2005

April 13, 2005 02:35 PM

Since its establishment by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, and Sheridan Snyder in 1969, USA Tennis NJTL (
National Junior Tennis League) has made a significant impact on the lives of many of our nation's youngsters by not only providing tennis-skill development, but social development as well. It is the mission of this program to develop the character of young people through tennis by emphasizing the ideals and life of Arthur Ashe in the following ways:

.

Reaching out to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn and play tennis;

. Instilling the values of humanitarianism, leadership, and academic excellence;

. Introducing the opportunity to fully develop their tennis skills potential for a lifetime of enjoyment.

The Tennis Leadership Camp was created in 1984 to provide an educational as well as motivational tennis experience for USA Tennis NJTL participants who could not afford such an opportunity. The camp's objective is to provide an opportunity for NJTL participants to be part of a life lasting tennis and social experience. The weeklong session emphasizes character and leadership development, good sportsmanship, physical fitness, proper nutrition, and other healthy attitudes. Tennis is the focus of the week; however, other activities are planned such as, sightseeing, cultural, sporting, and social activities.

Adult counselors will meet the campers at the airport and will be with them for the entire week. Forty fortunate players from USA Tennis NJTL Programs and Chapters will be invited to attend the camp.
