NJTL Leadership Camp Scholarship Winners

August 1, 2002 02:33 PM

USA Tennis NJTL National Invitational Tennis Leadership Camp Scholarship winners have been announced. The following NJTL participants from the Southern Section have been selected to attend the ITLC August 3-9, 2002 in Los Angeles, CA: Casey Dykes of Seminary, MS (NJTL of Hattiesburg Program); Jalisa Nix of Gadsden, AL (NJTL of Gadsden program); Brent Curtis of Mobile, AL (NJTL of Lyons Park program); and Jennifer Williams of Raleigh, NC (NJTL of Raleigh program). Congratulations to these fine and talented players.

Jalisa Nix, NJTL Camp Scholarship Winner

They will each spend a week in Los Angeles on the campus of Dominguez Hills College. Only 34 NJTL participants have been selected to participate in this once in a lifetime experience. The camp week promises to be a memorable one offering tennis, educational and cultural experiences for everyone. The Southern Section USA Tennis NJTL department had four spots allotted for the camp. Each applicant had to be between the ages of 12-14, complete the skills test provided by the program leader and exhibit financial need. The selection process was based on each individual applicant’s skills test results and evaluation of playing skills. It is also very important that the applicants exhibit a positive attitude towards themselves and their peers, as well as leadership qualities on and off the tennis court.

We wish them well as they travel across the country. Have a good time Casey, Jalisa, Brent, and Jennifer!
