Auburn Hosts Of First USTA Southern Section Campus Championship

The USTA Southern Section Campus Championships were played in two different locations this spring. Auburn University’s Yarbrough Tennis Center hosted the USTA Southern Section Campus Championships on Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 28. This year’s championship has been divided into two divisions to accommodate the entire nine-state section. The second event will be held in Knoxville, Tenn. on March 13 -14.

Day 1 Results & Stories 

“The USTA Southern Section is excited to be hosting two Sectional Campus Championship tournaments in 2010”, stated Tournament Director Jeff Smith. “We are hoping to decrease drive time for many schools and to also provide them with the opportunity to choose dates that fit best for them to increase participation.”


Admission is free to the public.  Fans are encouraged to attend.

The tournament showcases 32 teams representing 27 different colleges and universities from across the Southern Section. The format is that of World Team Tennis with the top three seeds from this event receiving automatic bids to the National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. in April. Two automatic bids will be given to the winner of the Knoxville event.

Joining defending champion, Auburn University are the following teams: University of Alabama - University of Arkansas - Auburn University - Clemson University - College of Charleston - Columbus State University - Duke University - East Carolina University - Elon University - Emory University - Furman University - University of Georgia - Georgia Southern University - Georgia Tech - Louisiana State University - University of North Carolina - University of North Carolina Charlotte - University of North Carolina Wilmington - North Carolina State University - University of South Carolina - University of Southern Mississippi - University of Tennessee  - Tulane University - Valdosta State University -Vanderbilt University - Wake Forest University - Western Kentucky University.
