Chelsey Gullickson and women's head coach Jeff Wallace of the University of Georgia won 2009 ITA Rookie Player of the Year and Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year Division I national awards, respectively.

Coaches Steve Barsby and Simon Earnshaw, men's and women's coaches for Georgia College & State University and Armstrong Atlantic State University respectively, received Coach of the Year awards for Division II.

Steve Barsby, men’s and women’s tennis coach at Georgia College & State University, was honored with the 2009 Division II Men’s Wilson/ITA Coach of the year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He led the men’s team to its first Peach Belt regular season title.

Another coach in the Georgia college system – Simon Earnshaw of Armstrong Atlantic State University – won the association’s DII award for women’s coach. Earnshaw, who also coaches the AASU men’s team, led the Armstrong Atlantic women’s tennis team to its sixth consecutive season with one loss or better. David

Secker, assistant coach for both AASU teams, received the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year for both men’s and women’s teams.

Barsby has led the Georgia College and State men's team to a record season with a 17-3 record, including a Peach Belt regular season title, the first in program history. Barsby was also honored as the Peach Belt Conference Men's Coach of the Year. The 17 victories rank third in program history, behind 19 in 1989 and 18 in 2005. The three losses are the fewest since the 1987 team went 12-2. The Bobcats are fresh off winning the Southeast Regional after defeating PBC rival Columbus State University. The GCSU squad has advanced to the NCAA Division II Finals where they will face Abilene Christian University on Wednesday, May 13.

In 2008, Earnshaw became just the second coach in NCAA history to lead both the men's and women's tennis teams to NCAA Division II National Championships in the same season. This season he earned his seventh Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year honor and third in a row after leading the Lady Pirates to their sixth straight PBC Championship. AASU was undefeated in conference play once again, running their current conference win streak to 62 matches. The Lady Pirates (24-1) continue their title defense on Wednesday, May 13, taking on St. Edward's.
