Cumberland's Riddle Receives Community Outreach Award

Bill Riddle, Men’s and Women’s Head Tennis Coach at Cumberland University was honored with a USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award.

The award honors an Intercollegiate Tennis Association coach for significant contributions in developing community-based tennis programs through community centers, schools, parks, community tennis associations, inner city, suburban or rural programs. Riddle was one of seven chosen in 2008.

Riddle was cited for growing tennis throughout middle Tennessee and for offering summer Jr. Team Tennis programs, home school-based tennis camps and summer junior tennis camps. He has served as host pro and tournament director of the Tennessee USTA Grand Prix Novice State Championships and as tournament director for 10 years of the Music City Tennis Invitational event to benefit Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Child Development Center. He has been coaching at the Lebanon, Tenn. university for six years.

A dedicated tennis volunteer, Riddle has served as a member of the Tennessee USTA Board of Directors, Tennessee PTR State representative and president (five years), Tennessee USPTA State Chapter President (four years) and state board member and as the co-chair of the MCTI event (eight years).
