The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the fall singles and doubles national rankings today and three players from Cumberland University were among those receiving rankings.
The Lady Dawgs, who are no strangers to national rankings, are represented this period by a local Tennessee player. Lebanon native and sophomore, Emily Jacobs, debuts her first ever national ranking as the 49th ranked singles player. Jacobs, who has had a solid fall season of tournament play, will hope to build upon her "Player of the Month" and "All Conference" singles and doubles selection from the spring as she and the other Lady Dawgs prepare for the 2008 season.
"I am always proud of our players accomplishments and rankings and I think it speaks well for our University and Athletic Department when we share such honors" said Head Tennis Coach, Bill Riddle. This marks Coach Riddle's fifth season as the Head Coach with eleven CU players receiving national rankings over those five consecutive years.
Players get some time off now for the remainder of this semester but return to action in January as they open the 2008 tennis season. The Lady Dawgs open the 2008 campaign on January 27th at Western Kentucky University with the men's opener two days later on the 29th at Austin Peay State University.
