UNCC Hosted Team Tennis On Campus Fall Brawl

October 10, 2006 10:13 AM

The UNC Charlotte Tennis Club hosted the Fall Brawl, a team tournament that featured 16 teams from 13 schools from in and around the southeast.

The field included East Carolina, Elon, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, George Washington, NC State, North Carolina, Valdosta State, Virginia, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and William & Mary. The tournament was the first of its kind in the state of North Carolina, showcasing the unique team tennis format where players’ individual set scores combine to obtain a final team tally.

The two-day event at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex in Charlotte, NC was a great success, and the championship match ended with Virginia defeating Georgia Tech 30-10 in the gold playoff bracket. UNC Wilmington took 3rd place, topping Elon by one game, 24-23. Also, NC State won the silver bracket, UNC Charlotte won the bronze bracket and UNC Greensboro won the nickel bracket.

A total of 40 team matches were played over the course of the weekend. The event organizers would like to thank Smoothie King who were very generous in sponsoring this event.
