Tulane to Hold Invitational Tournament, Fundraiser in College Station, TX

November 2, 2005 12:29 PM

The Tulane men’s and women’s tennis teams will be hosting the Wells Fargo Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser Tournament November 4-6 in College Station, Texas. This event will be the first “home” competition for both teams due to the damage inflicted by Katrina in New Orleans. The women’s ITA-sanctioned event will be held at Texas A&M’s George P. Mitchell Tennis Center and the men’s event will take place at Pebble Creek Country Club.

The men’s and women’s teams have spent the past semester at Texas A&M due to the damage Tulane University suffered from Hurricane Katrina. The teams are looking to raise money to help fund the repairs to their facilities and equipment. The athletes displaced by the storm hope to return to New Orleans for the Spring Semester which begins on January 17, 2006.

Schools other than Tulane who will be participating include Texas A&M, LSU, University of Texas, University of Arizona, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Trinity College, Lee University, and Stephen F. Austin State University. There will be a singles and doubles draw with matches beginning at noon on Friday.
