Tennis Team Heads To Athens For Southeastern Play

Selected members of the Mississippi State men's tennis squad will travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend (Sept. 23-26) to compete in the 38th Southern Intercollegiate Championships. The four-day event, hosted by The University of Georgia, features 137 players from 25 schools around the Southeast.

Four Bulldogs will make the trip to compete in singles and doubles competition. The Division II singles draw showcases three players from State. MSU senior Florent Girod is notched as the top seed in the field and will receive a first-round bye and will begin play on Saturday. Freshmen Eric Lim and Ryan Farlow, also in the Division II bracket, will begin Friday morning. In Division III singles, MSU sophomore Josh Irey will play his first-round match on Friday morning.

Two doubles teams will compete in the Division II doubles draw for MSU.

The Bulldog tandem of Farlow and Girod will compete as the third seed while Irey and Lim will pair to play together.

Play will begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. with first round doubles competition and will be followed by first round singles matches.
