NCAA Champs Florida and Illinois Top Final Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings

NCAA champions Florida and Illinois are No. 1 in the final Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings for Division I men and women, released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Illinois completed a 32-0 season last week by beating Vanterbilt 4-3 in the NCAA men's final in Athens, GA, capturing its first national title. Also last week, Florida (31-2) topped Stanford 4-3 on its home courts in Gainesville to win its fourth NCAA women's title.

Rounding out this year's top 10 for the men are (in order): Florida, Stanford, Baylor and Vanderbilt (tie), USCL, California, Mississippi, Duke and Minnesota. Following Florida in the women's top 10 are: Stanford, Duke, California, Southern California, Washington, William & Mary, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

The Illinois men, only the fourth team to go unbeaten since 1977, held the No. 1 ranking since Feb. 26. The Florida women were No. 2 in the final regular season rankings, but No. 1 as recently as April 23.

Vanderbilt's Bobby Reynolds finished at No. 1 in men's singles and Tennessee's Vilmarie Castellvi No.1 and women's singles. In doubles, Rice's Richard and William Barker are the top-ranked men's team, while Georgia's Agata Cioroch and Lori Grey are the No. 1 women's team.

Note: The 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship broadcast will re-air in its original 90 minute tape delay format on Monday, June 2 at 3:30 PM ET/12:30 PM PT on ESPN2. The original tape delay air slot was cut short on Tuesday, May 27 when live coverage of the French Open ran longer than scheduled.
