Southern players and organizations are constantly making their mark in the world of tennis. Here's a list of recent awards, achievements and news in June 2010.
Hampton wins second pro tournament
Twenty- year-old Jamie Hampton wins second tournament of the year. Hampton, who is from Auburn, Ala. now lives and trains in Atlanta.
In Boston, Hampton defeated two top 200 players including the #2 seed Madison Brengle. Hampton won 6-2, 6-1 over Brengle to capture the title. 
After coming back from a wrist injury in 2009, she has moved over five hundred spots in the rankings to #180. The recent victory makes Hampton the 14th ranked American and the 5th highest ranked American player age 20 or younger.

Story about USTA Southern team win writer's award for Crenshaw
Solomon Crenshaw Jr. of The Birmingham News won a first-place writing award from the Alabama Sports Writers Associaiton for a story he wrote about a USTA Leage team.

Crenshaw was tipped off to the story by USTA Southern staff about a women's 4.0 team from Baton Rouge, La. that was competing at the 2009 USTA League Southern Section Championships in Birmingham, Ala. Crenshaw wrote the touching story of player Sherry Gautreau's battle with cancer and her teammates' support.

Crenshaw is scheduled to cover the upcoming 2010 USTA League Southern Section Championships that returns to Birmingham in late July and early August. Click here for the championships' web site.

Two Southern juniors are selected for USTA Player Development Camp
We are pleased to announce the players selected to participate in the USTA Player Development Camp to be held June 14-17, 2010 at the USTA Training Center in Boca Raton, Florida.  USTA National Coach, Kent Kinnear will be conducting the training camp for players born in 1998 and 1999.  Daily fitness training will be provided by Strength and Conditioning Coach, Satoshi Ochi. Congratulations to the players selected to attend.

Southern players are Spencer Brown, of Spartanburg, S.C. and Patrick Kypson, of Greenville, N.C.
