Min Downs Granville To Advance to Rock Hill Main Draw

Grace Min, 15, of Lawrenceville, Ga., defeated veteran Laura Granville 6-0, 6-2 in the last round of qualifying at  the Rock Hill Rocks Open, a $25K USTA Pro Circuit women’s tennis tournament sponsored by the City of Rock Hill.  Granville was ranked No. 28 in 2003 while Min is presently ranked No. 663.

Also advancing were. Jacqueline Cako, Marina Giral Lores, Claire De Gubernatis, Lena Litvak, Ani Mijacika, Petra Rampre and Ashley Weinhold.

Rock Hill’s Renata Marcinkowska, a former top-100 tour player, will is already in the main draw of 32 player.

Marcinkowska is currently ranked 6th in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Seniors Circuit 40-and-over category. She played on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for eight years,

The Wild Card women’s singles tennis event of the Rock Hill Rocks Open will feature regional talent and up-and-coming professionals, including a player formerly ranked 48th in the world. Vasilisa Bardina, 3rd seed in the event, is from Moscow, Russia.  She plays out of Houston, TX.  She is working her way back toward the Sony Ericsson WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Tour after a lingering right leg injury.

College players in the Wild Card event include Marija Dzakovic of Serbia, who plays at Charleston Southern University.  Former Winthrop University player Judit Trunkos is entered.

Rock Hill Tennis Center pros Teodora Doncheva and Alison Moulin, both former college players, have signed up.  Doncheva played at Campbell University, and Moulin played at Dartmouth College.

The Rock Hill Tennis Center is located at 897 Maplewood Lane, just off Cherry Road. The center has 11 outdoor, lighted, hard courts.  The championship court features stadium seats for tennis fans.  The center also has a pro shop, concession area, observation deck, and restroom-changing area. The center opened in 2005.  Tim Pleasant is center and tournament director.  The center is a joint venture by The City of Rock Hill and Rock Hill School District Three.
