Atlantan Scoville Jenkins defeated second-seelded Kevin Kim to advance to the $50,000 Carson (Calif.) finals on Saturday. No. 4-seeded Wayne Odesnik defeated Jenkins in the final 6-4, 6-4.
Jenkins downed eighth-seed Somdev Devvarman of India in the first round 6-1, 6-4. Kim, Odesnik and Devvarman are ranked No. 112, 115 and 155 in the world, respectively.
Jenkins brought home $4,200 for his work at the first tournament of the year on the 2009 USA Challengers, section of the USTA Pro Circuit.
Also reaching the finals was fellow Atlantan Donald Young. He and partner Lester Cook dropped a tight final in a match tiebreak 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-6 to No. 1-seeded Scott Lipsky and David Martin. Young and Cook defeated second-seeded brothers Brian and Dann Battistone in the first round.
