Ditty Loses In Tight Auburn Final

Julie Ditty unleashes a forehand in Auburn, Ala.
After an abysmal first set, Julie Ditty made the final of $50,000 USTA Women’s Professional Tennis Tournament a competitive affair. However, Edina Gallovits came away with a victory 6-0, 6-7(7), 7-5 on Sunday.

Ditty, who hails from Ashland, Ky. took home $4,000 from the tournament at the City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala. She successfully fought off a match point in the second-set tiebreak.

One crowd estimate reported about 1,000 spectactors attended the event.

In another pro tournament conducted in the USTA Southern section, Robert Kendrick defeated Somdev Devvarman 6-3, 7-5 in the finals of the $75,000 Music City Challenger in Nashville.

Cartsten Ball and Travis Rettenmaier downed Harsh Mankad and Ashutosh Singh in the doubles final.

Among the USTA Southern players in the draw were Bobby Reynolds, who was defeated by Devvarman in the semifinals 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Scoville Jenkins lost the eventual winner in the quarterfinals and Donald Young was defeated in the first round.
